Following our AGM on Wednesday, I am pleased to announce the results of our committee elections. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout, and we are excited to welcome both new and returning members.
Introducing our new Vice Chair
I am pleased to announce that David Gleave has been elected as the Vice Chair of the committee.

“I am committed to actively supporting our collective progress, ensuring Optometry is robustly represented in meetings and negotiations with commissioning bodies and that our profession maintains a decisive voice in shaping its future within primary care. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues on the 5-year-plan, contributing wholeheartedly to the continued advancement of our field.” – David Gleave
Welcoming our New Committee Members
Please join me in welcoming out newest committee members: Hamzah Aqeel-Abrar and Weronika Karmelita.

We asked them why they were inspired to step up and join the committee this year:
- Hamzah: “I wish to join the LOC to gain a better understanding of how local eye care services are developed and delivered, and to contribute towards improving patient care within the community. I am keen to support initiatives that make a positive difference locally while also developing my insight into the wider optical landscape.”
- Weronika: “I am looking for opportunities to further help my patients and learn more about other areas of eye care outside of the test room. As a newly qualified optometrist, I look forward to new opportunities and to gaining experience from colleagues.”
I am pleased to report that Michelle Cole, Drew Thompson and myself were all re-elected to the committee.
Constituent Survey
Help us shape the agenda for the coming year by completing our annual survey. It is important we hear from all local Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians and GOS Contractors to ensure we are focusing on the issues that matter most to you.
Virtual CPD Quiz still available
The virtual CPD quiz is still open for another week. If you have yet to complete it you can access it here. Certificates will be emailed directly to you by LOCSU.

Thank you to our presenters, sight loss charities and everyone who attended the AGM. Here’s to a productive and successful year ahead!
