Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted to announce the launch of our annual Enhanced Service Case Study Competition, following the success of our recent CPD webinars. This initiative is designed to highlight the positive impact of enhanced eye care services on patient outcomes by sharing real-life case studies. We hope this will encourage shared learning and strengthen engagement within our community.
How to Participate
- Who can enter? All clinicians (optometrists, contact lens opticians, dispensing opticians, including IP-qualified clinicians) providing enhanced eye care services via Primary Eyecare Services in England are eligible.
- How to submit: Share a case that make a positive difference to a patient, using the template in Appendix 1 (please see attached). Your statement should be up to 700 words and include clinical narrative, reflection and evidence of patient consent (see Appendix 2).
- Patient testimonial (recommended): You are encouraged to include a testimonial (Appendix 3) for added depth, though this does not count towards your word limit.
- Deadline: Submit your entry by Sunday, 01/02/2026, 23:59.
- Submission process: Email your case study and testimonial from a secure NHS email address to pes.pesspa@nhs.net with the subject “Case study competition”. Send the completed consent form separately to compliance@primaryeyecare.co.uk.
Judging & Prizes
- Entries will be reviewed by a panel of clinical directors, communications and professional development team members.
- Shortlisted top five entries will be recognised:
- Winner: £250 Amazon gift card and invitation to present at a future CPD event.
- Four runners-up: £100 Amazon gift card each
Top submissions will be featured in Local Optical Committee and Primary Eyecare Services newsletters and included in future CPD resources.
Key Guidelines
- Cases must have occurred from 01/01/2025 onwards in a community optometry practice in England under an NHS funded enhanced service (e.g., Community Urgent Eye Care Service (CUES), Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS), Glaucoma Refinement).
- Do not include patient identifiable information; refer to patients in general terms (e.g., “Caucasian male in their forties”).
- Patient consent is mandatory – see Appendix 2 for the consent form.
- Only one entry per clinician. All information submitted should relate to an enhanced services episode recorded on OPERA from 01/01/2025 onwards.
- All information provided is strictly for the uses listed above by Primary Eyecare Services.
Please see here for the patient consent form.
We look forward to your submissions and the opportunity to celebrate the outstanding work being delivered across our profession. If you have any questions, please contact the Professional Development Team.
Kind regards,
Primary Eyecare Services
