The school vision screening service in Cumbria has been put on hold, letters have been sent via all schools across Cumberland and Westmorland & Furness to advise parents/carers that children will need to be taken to their local optician for a GOS sight test (if due) this school year.
If a child is entitled to a GOS sight test then practices should book them an appointment. There is no mandate to do a cycloplegic refraction, however, practitioners should do use their clinical judgement and perform all necessary tests as with any sight test.
This will only affect practices in South Cumbria who should expect a possible influx of reception aged children requesting vision tests.
