As part of the NHSE Service Specification each DESP should have an in house Slit Lamp pathway. Historically Cumbria has referred Slit Lamp patients (typically patients that are unable to obtain a clear fundus image) to the respected Ophthalmology departments.
Cumbria Diabetic Eye Screening Programme are working to develop a Slit Lamp pathway within the DESP remit. They are exploring options for any community based Optometrists who may wish to deliver Slit Lamp sessions for DESP under a sessional basis and Service Level Agreement.
