
NHL Eyecare is an independent eyecare service based alongside an established community pharmacy and wider healthcare services in Preston. We are recruiting two people to help build the next stage of the practice.
Optical Assistant Apprentice
Full-time apprenticeship with structured development and progression .
Salary: competitive apprentice salary, compliant with applicable National Minimum Wage, dependent on age and experience, with structured reviews as competence develops
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and ambitious person who wants to build a long-term career in eyecare. Previous optical experience is not essential. Structured workplace training will be provided alongside the Practice Manager and Optometrist.
What the apprentice will learn and support
· Patient reception, customer care and telephone/online enquiries.
· Appointment booking, confirmations, reminders, recalls and DNA follow-up.
· Clinic preparation and permitted pre-screening once trained, competent and appropriately supervised.
· Frame styling, spectacle measurements and dispensing support within role and competence.
· Spectacle collections, repairs, adjustments and patient aftercare support.
· Optical administration, patient follow-up and support with claims/referral workflows.
· Stock control, merchandising, displays, equipment checks and local marketing/community outreach.

· Friendly, professional and confident communicating with patients.
· Reliable, punctual, organised and comfortable using computers.
· Willing to learn, ask questions and take increasing ownership as competence develops.
· Interested in a long-term career in optical healthcare.
