NHS England has recently updated the Optometry audit tool and produced guidance.
The work was led by Cathy Wooldridge, Optometry Advisor NHS England North West, who worked collaboratively with her optometry advisor colleagues. The new tool is a revision of the existing Quality in Optometry Audit Tool which many of you will be familiar with.
The tool and guidance have been ratified by the Professional Standards Oversight Group.
The rationale for updating the audit tool was that it was identified that the current tool provided a lot of quantitative but not enough qualitative data. The new tool allows for:
· Half scores, where information is partially recorded
· Commentary on individual patient records
· Guidance on expectations of required information
· Ability to identify where individual records are a patient safety risk
· Calculates scoring per record and per metric
The current expected standard remains at 80%.
