Dear Colleague,
A new outcome has been added to the CUES, MECS and CES condition list. It was noted that practitioners have been using “no pathology found” to indicate that a condition has now resolved, for example at a follow-up appointment.
In these cases, please use the new outcome PATIENT CONDITION RESOLVED.
The following outcomes continue to be included for completeness despite not, strictly speaking, being diagnoses:
- No pathology identified
- Photopsia (flashes)
- Unexplained visual loss
We expect that these outcomes will be used rarely; please make a tentative diagnosis wherever possible. The use of these outcomes will continue to be monitored through regular clinical audit.
The full condition lists can be found here: CUES II – OPERA and here: MECS (Minor Eye Conditions) – OPERA and FAQs regarding making a diagnosis/tentative diagnosis can be found below.
FAQs:
What if I’m not sure or not confident of the diagnosis?
Please select your tentative or working diagnosis. You can add further detail and specify that the diagnosis is tentative within the free text section of the episode and/or referral.
How did you decide which conditions to include?
We aimed to cover every condition that had been used at least ten times over a year of MECS and CUES episodes. A panel of experienced optometrists discussed and agreed the final list and terminology used.
I can’t find the condition I want!
This list has been developed with extensive research into the conditions diagnosed within our services using a working group of experienced optometrists. It is designed to cover the vast majority of conditions that are likely to be seen in minor and urgent eyecare services in primary care optometry.
There are resources on the Help Centre to help you navigate the lists. CUES II – OPERA MECS (Minor Eye Conditions) – OPERA
If, after looking at these resources, you feel the condition you want is not covered, please fill in the form here. We will review these requests periodically and make updates where required.
I want to use a more specific/detailed diagnostic term:
Please use the more generic term available and use the more detailed term in the episode notes and/or the free text part of your referral.
If you have any further questions or queries, please contact hello@referral.support
Kind regards,
Primary Eyecare Services
