The LOC has been asked to remind all practitioners to make themselves aware of the new referral pathways in Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre. Please also ensure that all Locums are made aware of these pathways.
Key points
- The eye casualty inbox (bfwh.eyecliniccr@nhs.net) is closing on 30.5.2025. Referrals to this inbox are now all rejected.
- Patients who need to be seen within 48 hours MUST be called through to the on call first on 01253 300000 and then an opera/ eRs referral sent via the emergency RAS pathway. Please include the name of the doctor that accepted the referral and suggested timeframes for the patient to be booked. Referrals sent without first speaking to the on call will be rejected.
- Any primary care provider that has access to opera must send all referrals via this platform, email referrals will be rejected if you have opera. If you are unable to send the referral through Opera (e.g. patients GP is not in an area covered by PES or the Opera system is offline) please advise the on call of this and give a printed referral letter to the patient to take to the appointment. If you try to email the referral to the secretaries it will be rejected.
- If you are not registered for Opera (please consider registration in the first instance as this is the commissioned pathway), after ringing the on call please email your referral to bfwh.eyesecretaries@nhs.net – this mailbox will only accept referrals from practices not registered on Opera
